Gregmark Records Volume 1
Gregmark Music, Inc. - Is a legacy vintage catalog embodying original works from the '50s, and '60s. Genres include pop, rock, blues, R&B, soul, doo-wop, jazz, vintage surf, girl-band, rockabilly, country and folk. Established in 1961 by music mogul Lester Sill and Lee Hazlewood, Gregmark releases (many out of print) feature tracks from Gregmark Records, Trey Records and Jamie Records respectively.
Label History
Trey Records: In late 1959 Sill and Hazlewood formed Trey Records, a Hollywood-based imprint distributed by Atlantic. The label's signings included 18-year-old wunderkind Phil Spector, revered blues, jazz and American folk artist, Barbara Dane, teen pop sensations Suzy Dickerson and Greg Connors, Arizona folk balladeers The Clingman Clan, and classic novelty instrumentals by Bob Wilson & The Easy Dealers, among others.
Gregmark Records: At the end of 1961, Sill and Hazlewood formed a new label, Gregmark, as a vehicle for the Paris Sisters, a vocal trio with a series of singles under its belt. While the Paris Sisters' Gregmark debut "Be My Boy" earned little notice, the follow-up, "I Love How You Love Me," cracked the U.S. Top Five. Notable out of print releases on Gregmark include artists such as the incredible R&B teen idol Billy Storm, the legendary titan of twang Duane Eddy, teen phenom Tony Gunner, classic novelty instrumental gems by S&H Scamps (Sill & Hazlewood), and an unreleased version of the seminal blues classic “Stormy Monday” by T-Bone Walker, among many others.
Jamie Records: An indie record label founded in Philadelphia, in 1956 by Harold Lipsius and Allan Sussel. Duane Eddy’s manager (Lester Sill) brought him to Jamie in 1958, producing (15) consecutive instrumental hits for the label. Gregmark owns and controls US recording rights to three Jamie related artists: the American R&B and rockabilly singer, guitarist, and prolific songwriter Ray Sharpe, the Johnny Cash influenced rockabilly artist Sanford Clark, and vintage Arizona crooner, arranger and songwriter Connie Conway.
